Trace your Moroccan Jewish family roots through personalized

Location: Casablanca, Casablanca Settat, Morocco

Organizer: Typically Morocco Tours

About

Discover your family’s Moroccan Jewish heritage during a private six-hour experience combining preliminary genealogy research with guided visits to Casablanca’s most important Jewish sites.

Before the tour, the operator conducts an initial search based on your family name and any records or background information you provide. This preliminary research is used to personalize the tour and connect the visited locations with your family history where possible.

Your private licensed guide and driver will collect you from your Casablanca hotel or from the Casablanca Cruise Port in a private air-conditioned vehicle.

Begin with approximately 90 minutes at the Museum of Moroccan Judaism. Explore documents, ceremonial objects, traditional clothing, photographs and exhibitions relating to Jewish life throughout Morocco. Your guide will use the museum’s collections to provide historical context for your family research.

Continue to Rue El Mellah for approximately one hour. Walk through Casablanca’s historic Jewish quarter and learn about the families, businesses, institutions and community life once associated with the neighborhood.

Visit Temple Beth-El for approximately 45 minutes. Discover the history, architecture and religious importance of one of Casablanca’s best-known synagogues.

Continue to another local synagogue for approximately 30 minutes and learn more about Casablanca’s living Jewish community and religious traditions.

Finish the heritage visits with approximately 45 minutes at the Casablanca Old Jewish Cemetery. The experience includes a traditional stone-placing ceremony as a respectful act of remembrance.

At the end of the tour, you will receive a personalized heritage-summary document based on the preliminary research and locations visited. You will then be returned to your Casablanca hotel or the cruise terminal.

The total experience lasts approximately six hours.

Religious life & Shabbat

This private tour focuses on Moroccan Jewish family history, genealogy and Casablanca’s Jewish heritage. It includes visits to the Museum of Moroccan Judaism, the historic Mellah, Temple Beth-El, another synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery.

The cemetery visit includes a traditional stone-placing ceremony. Guests may wish to provide the names, dates or family details of relatives connected to Casablanca before the tour so the operator can include them in the preliminary research.

Access to active synagogues and religious sites may depend on opening hours, security arrangements, community activities, Jewish holidays and local observance. The itinerary may be adjusted if a location is closed or unavailable.

Visitors should wear respectful clothing when entering synagogues and the cemetery. Shoulders and knees should be covered, and male visitors may be asked to wear a head covering inside a synagogue.
