About this listing

The Mikvah Old Jewish Quarter offers essential ritual immersion services in the heart of Venice, Italy. This facility serves the local Jewish community and travelers visiting this historic maritime city. It provides a quiet space for spiritual purification according to Jewish law.

Venice has a long and storied Jewish history dating back centuries. This mikvah continues that legacy by providing a necessary resource for taharat hamishpacha (family purity). The building sits within the Cannaregio district, which is home to the world's oldest Jewish Ghetto.

Maintaining a mikvah in a city built on water presents unique challenges. This facility ensures that residents and guests have access to a halachically valid immersion site. Its presence supports the active Jewish life that persists in Venice today.

About the area

You can find this mikvah near the Old Jewish Quarter in the Cannaregio sestiere. This neighborhood is famous for being the site of the first Ghetto, established in 1516. The area consists of small islands connected by stone bridges and narrow alleys.

Navigating the Ghetto

Reaching the mikvah involves walking through the charming, winding paths of Venice. The Ghetto is divided into three sections: the Ghetto Nuovo, Ghetto Vecchio, and Ghetto Nuovissimo. Most Jewish communal services are clustered in this quiet corner of the city.

Public water buses, known as vaporetti, stop near the entrance to the Ghetto. The Guglie and San Marcuola stops are the most convenient for those arriving by boat. From these stops, it is a short walk to the historic Jewish center.

Nearby Jewish landmarks

The Cannaregio district serves as the heart of Jewish life in Venice. Visitors will find several historic synagogues within a short walk of the mikvah. These sites represent the Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditions that shaped the city.
