Operating out of the historic Kobe Synagogue (the oldest in Japan), we offer a warm and inclusive environment for local residents, expats, and travelers. Our center provides a full range of services, including traditional Shabbat and Holiday services, Torah classes, and traveler assistance. We are particularly dedicated to providing a "Level of Care" for those visiting the cultural landmarks of Kyoto and the business centers of Osaka, offering a home-away-from-home experience complete with hospitality and spiritual guidance. Led by Rabbi Shmuel and Batya Vishedsky, Chabad of Kansai has been revitalizing Jewish life in the region for two decades. The Vishedskys are committed to maintaining the rich history of the Kobe community while providing modern resources and unconditional hospitality to every visitor. They work tirelessly to ensure that kosher food, Shabbat services, and a friendly Jewish environment are accessible to everyone traveling through the Kansai area.

Getting there

We are located in the beautiful Kitano district of Kobe, known for its historic foreign residences. The center is a 10-15 minute uphill walk from Sannomiya Station or Shin-Kobe Station (Shinkansen). Taxis are readily available from both stations and will drop you right at our door. For those staying in Osaka or Kyoto, we are easily accessible via a 30-60 minute train ride, making us a convenient hub for all travelers in Western Japan.
