About this listing

Located on Maple Avenue, the Chabad House Of Barrington-Newport serves as a central resource for Jewish life in the East Bay region of Rhode Island. This center provides a welcoming environment for both local residents and visitors looking for a Jewish connection in the Barrington area. Primarily functioning as a hub for tradition and community, the house offers a wide array of spiritual and educational services designed to foster Jewish growth.

The mission of this institution centers on hospitality and support. Whether one is looking for a place to pray, a community to celebrate the holidays with, or guidance on Jewish practice, this Chabad center acts as a bridge to Jewish tradition. It serves the dual purpose of a neighborhood synagogue and a resource center for those navigating the requirements of a Jewish lifestyle in a smaller coastal community.

About the area

Barrington is a picturesque suburban town situated about 10 miles southeast of Providence. The Chabad House's location on Maple Avenue places it near the town center, making it accessible for those living in or traveling through the East Bay. This region is known for its high quality of life, coastal views, and proximity to major Rhode Island landmarks.

In the broader context of Rhode Island’s Jewish community, Barrington provides a suburban alternative to the more urban Jewish centers in Providence and Pawtucket. While the local Jewish population is smaller than in the state's capital, the presence of the Chabad House ensures that those in the Barrington and Newport corridor have access to essential services without needing to commute long distances for every communal need.

Nearby Jewish landmarks

Barrington is centrally located within the East Bay region, providing easy access to several Jewish points of interest in the Greater Providence area. While Barrington itself is a quiet residential town, the nearby city of Providence is home to a more concentrated Jewish infrastructure, including the historic Congregation Baith Israel Anshai Emes and various kosher-certified establishments.

Natural beauty is a hallmark of the area. Visitors can enjoy the East Bay Bike Path, which runs through the heart of Barrington, or explore the nearby Colt State Park in Bristol. The proximity to Narragansett Bay makes this a popular area for those who appreciate coastal scenery alongside their communal engagement.

For those traveling further south, the Newport area—historically significant for American Jewry—is within driving distance. This allows residents and visitors to connect with the deep roots of Jewish history in Rhode Island while maintaining a base in the quieter environment of Barrington.

What to expect

Visitors to the Chabad House Of Barrington-Newport can expect a warm and inclusive atmosphere. The center is known for its open-door policy, welcoming Jews of all backgrounds and levels of observance. Upon arrival, guests often find a small but dedicated community engaged in prayer, study, or social programs.

Educational programming is a significant focus here. From one-on-one Torah study sessions to larger adult education classes, the center emphasizes the intellectual side of Jewish heritage. Families can take advantage of youth-oriented programming, including holiday-themed workshops and Bar or Bat Mitzvah preparation, ensuring that the next generation remains connected to their roots.

Those with specific religious needs will find the center particularly helpful. The staff provides services such as kitchen koshering, mezuzah and tefillin checking, and hospital visitations. For those traveling for business or leisure, the Shabbat and holiday hospitality services provide a much-needed home away from home, ensuring that the requirements of Jewish law and the spirit of the holidays are easily accessible in Rhode Island.
