About this listing

Chabad of Lincoln Park stands as a vital resource for Jewish life in one of Chicago’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Located on North Bissell Street, this center offers a warm and inclusive environment for residents, students, and travelers alike. Under the leadership of Rabbi Mendy Benhiyoun, the center provides a wide array of spiritual, educational, and social services rooted in Chabad-Lubavitch traditions.

Whether you are a local professional looking for a mid-week Torah class or a visitor seeking a place to celebrate Shabbat, Chabad of Lincoln Park provides a welcoming home away from home. The mission of the center is to serve every Jewish person, regardless of their background or level of observance, ensuring that Jewish heritage and practice are accessible to everyone in the Lincoln Park community.

About the area

Situated on Chicago’s North Side, Lincoln Park is a historic neighborhood known for its tree-lined streets, proximity to the lakefront, and cultural institutions. The Chabad center is strategically located to serve the Jewish population living in the Sheffield Neighbors and nearby DePaul University areas. This geographic positioning makes it a convenient stop for those navigating the city's diverse urban landscape.

Chicago has a rich Jewish history, with established communities in various pockets of the city and suburbs. While neighborhoods like West Rogers Park (often referred to as West Ridge) serve as the traditional heart of Orthodox life in Chicago, Lincoln Park has grown as a popular destination for young Jewish families and singles. The presence of Chabad in this specific district ensures that those living outside the primary Jewish corridors still have access to daily services, holiday programs, and kosher resources.

Nearby Jewish landmarks

Located in the heart of Lincoln Park, the center is surrounded by some of Chicago’s most famous landmarks. Visitors are just a short distance from the Lincoln Park Zoo and the expansive lakefront parks, offering scenic views of Lake Michigan. The nearby Sheffield Neighbors area provides a peaceful, residential atmosphere that is a contrast to the bustling downtown Loop, which is easily accessible via the CTA Brown and Red lines.

For Jewish travelers, the location offers proximity to several other communal hubs in the northern Chicago neighborhoods. While Lakeview and West Rogers Park host larger concentrations of kosher dining and Judaica shops, Lincoln Park serves as a critical Jewish anchor for professionals and students living in the 60614 area. The neighborhood is also home to DePaul University, making this Chabad house a central point for Jewish campus life and student engagement.

What to expect

Visitors to Chabad of Lincoln Park can expect a friendly and non-judgmental atmosphere. The synagogue services are conducted in a traditional manner, yet they are designed to be approachable for those who may be less familiar with the liturgy. Prayer books often include translations to assist participants in following along with the Hebrew services.

The facility functions as more than just a house of worship; it is a community hub. You will find a diverse range of programming that spans from youth activities, such as "Mommy and Me" and teen clubs, to senior care and hospital visitations. For families, the center offers religious instruction and Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, ensuring the next generation is connected to their roots.

The center also provides essential Jewish services including mezuzah and tefillin checking, kitchen koshering assistance, and marriage preparation. For those traveling on business or vacation, the staff can help navigate the local landscape, offering guidance on finding kosher food or locating the nearest mikvah or eruv in the greater Chicago area.
