About the area

Situated at 25 Pacific Street, the Chabad center is nestled in a quiet neighborhood of New London, a city known for its deep maritime roots and collegiate atmosphere. The location is easily accessible from Interstate 95, making it a convenient stop for those traveling along the Northeast corridor between New York and Boston.

New London itself has a long-standing Jewish history, though the community is smaller than those found in Hartford or New Haven. Being the primary Chabad House in this specific corner of the state, it serves a diverse demographic including military personnel from the nearby Naval Submarine Base New London and students from local colleges. This makes the Pacific Street location a unique crossroads of Jewish life.

Nearby Jewish landmarks

Located in the historic seafaring city of New London, the Chabad center is positioned near several regional landmarks. The nearby Connecticut College and the Coast Guard Academy bring a steady stream of students and families to the area, many of whom utilize the center for holiday meals and spiritual support.

For those interested in maritime history, the Thames River and the historic Waterfront District are just a short drive away. While the immediate vicinity is residential and academic, the center serves as the primary Jewish hub for Eastern Connecticut, bridging the gap between New London and surrounding towns like Groton and Mystic.

The facility includes specialized Jewish infrastructure that is rare in this part of the state. Having access to a local Mikvah and a Dish Mikvah on-site makes New London a viable stop for observant travelers exploring the Connecticut shoreline or those transitioning to the area for work or study.
