GAME DRIVES IN WELGEVONDEN

Our highly qualified and experienced guides can tell you everything

you want to know about the wildlife, birdlife and vegetation in

Welgevonden. The nature reserve is home to over 50 different

mammals including the Big 5. The reserve also has kudu, giraffe,

zebra, warthog, cheetah, brown hyena, honey badger and close to 300

bird species and a whole lot more.

At the same time, the restricted number of vehicles allowed in the

reserve and the fact that the animals have never been hunted means

that they remain largely unfazed by human proximity, allowing for

particularly close and personal encounters.

STARGAZING IN WELGEVONDEN

Arrange with your guide about this unique stargazing experience.

The heavens are just part of the magical view that comes out at night

where the Milky Way burns bright enough to pick out the belt of stars

lining the centre of our galaxy. Getting far away from the city and

out into nature is a real treat at night, when one can look up into a

star-studded sky and marvel at the countless planets and stars out

there. The skies here have little light pollution and mostly cloudless

skies, especially in summer, making it a perfect place on the planet for

stargazing.

BIRD WATCHING

Welgevonden Nature reserve is home to a diverse range of bird

species, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers.

Choose the right time: The best time to go bird watching is early

morning or late afternoon, when the birds are most active. You should

also try to avoid the hottest part of the day, as many birds will be

seeking shade.

Listen for bird calls: Many bird species have unique calls that can help

you identify them even if you can't see them. Take some time to learn

the calls of the birds you are likely to encounter in the reserve.

SPA TREATMENTS

Take the opportunity to relax and be pampered in natural surroundings

with only the sounds and smells of the wilderness. Awaken your

spiritual self where your experience with nature expands and deepens

into an awareness of the unity between body and soul. The spa treatments

can be done in the privacy of your suite or on your own deck

overlooking the valley.

Treatments to be booked in advance.

WELGEVONDEN CONSERVATION PROGRAMS

The conservation programs in Welgevonden Game Reserve focus on

protecting and preserving the reserve's natural resources and wildlife.

These programs include:

Anti-Poaching: The game reserve has a dedicated anti -poaching team

that works around the clock to prevent poaching and protect the

wildlife. The team uses a variety of techniques, including patrols,

surveillance and intelligence gathering to prevent poaching.

Habitat Management: The game reserve is committed to managing

the habitat to ensure that it provides the best possible environment

for the wildlife to thrive. This includes monitoring and managing the

vegetation, water resources, and soil quality.

Conservation Research: The game reserve has ongoing research

projects that focus on understanding the behavior and ecology of

the wildlife in the reserve. This research helps to inform conservation

decisions and management practices.

Wildlife Rehabilitation: The game reserve has a wildlife rehabilitation center that provides medical care and rehabilitation services to

injured and orphaned wildlife. Once the animals are healed and ready,

they are released back into the wild.

Community Outreach: The game reserve works closely with the local

community to educate them about the importance of conservation

and wildlife protection. This includes school programs, community

outreach events, and employment opportunities.

Overall, the conservation programs in Welgevonden Game Reserve
