About this listing

The Khan is a well-established dairy and fish restaurant located on David Remez Street in the Jerusalem District. As a destination for those seeking a reliable kosher dining experience in the capital, it provides a welcoming environment for both local residents and international visitors. The menu focuses on high-quality dairy ingredients and fresh fish, offering a lighter alternative to the many meat-heavy establishments in the city.

Operating under the supervision of the Rabbanut Yerushalayim, the restaurant ensures that all ingredients and preparation methods meet standard kosher requirements. The establishment is known for its position within a historic stone structure, reflecting the unique architectural heritage of Jerusalem. Whether you are looking for a quiet morning coffee or a full dinner, the setting provides a distinctive atmosphere that blends the old with the new.

About the area

Located at David Remez St 2, the restaurant occupies a strategic position at the intersection of several famous Jerusalem neighborhoods. It sits at the gateway to the German Colony (Emek Refaim), an area celebrated for its historic Templer architecture and boutique shopping. This neighborhood has long been a favorite for English-speaking olim and tourists alike.

To the east, guests can easily reach the Old City via the Sultan’s Pool area and Mishkenot Sha’ananim. The restaurant’s placement makes it a natural refueling stop for those walking from the city center toward the southern residential districts. Being near the beginning of the "Train Track Park" (HaMesila Park), it is often visited by those enjoying a walk or cycle through Jerusalem's transformed railway corridor.

Nearby Jewish landmarks

Situated in the historic heart of the city, the restaurant is moments away from the First Station (Tachana Rishona), a vibrant culinary and cultural hub where many visitors gather to enjoy Jerusalem’s social atmosphere. The Montefiore Windmill and the historic Yemin Moshe neighborhood are within walking distance, offering some of the most iconic views of the Old City walls.

For those attending services, the Jerusalem Great Synagogue on King George Street is a short drive or moderate walk away. The area is also well-served by several boutique hotels and luxury accommodations, making it a convenient stop for travelers staying in the city center or the nearby German Colony.

Culture seekers will appreciate the proximity to the Jerusalem Cinematheque and the Khan Theater, which sit directly adjacent to the property. This concentration of landmarks makes the location ideal for tourists who want to experience the city's modern cultural landscape alongside its historical roots.

What to expect

Dining at The Khan offers a professional yet relaxed experience. Visitors can expect a menu that highlights the versatility of dairy cuisine, ranging from classic pasta dishes and salads to expertly prepared fish options. The interior honors the building's history, often featuring the vaulted ceilings and thick stone walls characteristic of 19th-century Jerusalem construction.

The restaurant is equipped with modern amenities, including wheelchair accessibility, ensuring that it remains inclusive for all guests. Because the establishment also serves as a Shabbat restaurant, it is a key resource for visitors staying in nearby hotels or vacation rentals who require pre-arranged or hosted meals during the Sabbath.

Service is typically efficient, catering to both the theater-going crowd and those taking a leisure break from sightseeing. Given its proximity to major cultural venues, the atmosphere can vary from a quiet afternoon retreat to a bustling evening spot. It is a practical choice for families and groups looking for a "milky" meal in a central, easily accessible location.
