About this listing

Han Restaurant, located within the historic Ruth Rimonim Hotel in Safed, offers a dedicated kosher meat dining experience. Set against the backdrop of one of Israel's four holy cities, this establishment serves both hotel guests and visitors looking for a traditional meal in a unique setting. The restaurant is housed in a structure that reflects the ancient stone architecture characteristic of the Safed Old City, providing a quiet atmosphere for lunch or dinner.

\n\n

Specializing in meat dishes, the menu is curated to reflect local flavors while adhering to strict Jewish dietary laws. As a reliable option for travelers exploring the Galilee, the restaurant provides a formal yet welcoming environment that caters to families, groups, and individuals. Whether you are visiting for a day trip to the holy sites or staying for a longer retreat, the restaurant serves as a central point for kosher dining in the Northern District.

About the area

Centrally positioned at Tet Zayin St 1a, Han Restaurant is anchored within the Ruth Rimonim Hotel property. This location is particularly significant as it sits on the site of a former 17th-century Turkish caravanserai (an ancient inn for travelers). The surrounding neighborhood is characterized by narrow winding alleys, stone arches, and the spiritual energy that has defined Safed for centuries.

\n\n

The hotel and restaurant are situated in the Artists\' Quarter and are conveniently close to the various Sephardic and Ashkenazic synagogues that define the city\'s skyline. Staying or dining in this area allows visitors to easily navigate the steep hills of Safed, with many of the city\'s most important Jewish landmarks located within a ten-minute walk. The elevation of the site often provides cooler temperatures and clear air, typical of the upper Galilee mountain range.

Nearby Jewish landmarks

Situated in the historic heart of the Galilee, the area surrounding the restaurant is rich with spiritual and historical sites. The Old City of Safed is world-renowned for its connection to the Kabbalah, and visitors to the area often explore the Ari Ashkenazi Synagogue and the Abuhav Synagogue, both located within walking distance of the hotel grounds.

\n\n

For those interested in local craftsmanship, the Safed Artist’s Colony is a short stroll away, featuring galleries that showcase Judaica, paintings, and traditional crafts. The nearby Citadel Park (HaMetzuda) offers panoramic views of the Galilee and Mount Meron, providing a tranquil spot for reflection after a meal.

\n\n

General supplies and localized kosher shopping are readily available in the nearby Jerusalem Street (Rehov Yerushalayim), the city\'s main commercial thoroughfare. The proximity to the Galilee’s ancient cemeteries and the grave of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron, a short drive away, makes this location a practical base for pilgrims and heritage travelers.

What to expect

Patrons can expect a focused meat menu prepared under the supervision of the Rabbanut Safed. The dining room typically mirrors the rustic elegance of the hotel, featuring stone walls and atmospheric lighting that honors the building\'s historical roots. The service is structured to accommodate both leisurely diners and those who may be on a tight sightseeing schedule.

\n\n

Families will find the environment suitable for children, with a layout that allows for comfortable seating. Furthermore, the establishment is wheelchair accessible, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the facilities without barriers. For those who prefer to eat in the comfort of their own accommodations or at one of Safed’s many scenic overlooks, take-away services are available, allowing for flexibility in your travel plans.

The culinary focus remains on quality meat preparations, often incorporating regional spices and traditional Israeli techniques.
