About the area

Situated at 3532 Johnson Avenue, Second Helping occupies a prime spot in one of the most established Jewish enclaves in the Bronx. Riverdale is known for its suburban feel within the city limits, characterized by tree-lined streets and a high density of Jewish communal life. The storefront is easily reached via local transit and is central to the daily foot traffic of the Johnson Avenue shopping district.

The neighborhood is home to a robust network of Jewish infrastructure. An active Eruv covers much of the area, and several prestigious synagogues and Jewish day schools are located within a small radius. Living and dining in this part of the Bronx offers a seamless experience for those keeping kosher, as the community is designed to support an observant lifestyle through its many specialized services and shops.

Within short walking distance, visitors can find several other kosher establishments, including bakeries, pizza shops, and cafes, making it a convenient stop for a full day of kosher errands or meal planning.

Institutional landmarks are a hallmark of this neighborhood. The Hebrew Home at Riverdale and the SAR Academy are both influential local entities located nearby. Additionally, the neighborhood features several well-known synagogues, such as the Riverdale Jewish Center and the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale (The Bayit), both of which have served the large Orthodox and observant populations for decades.

For those seeking outdoor spaces, the sprawling Seton Park is located just a few blocks away. It offers a quiet environment for locals to enjoy their takeout while overlooking the Hudson River and the surrounding greenery that makes this part of the Bronx unique among New York neighborhoods.
