Day 1 Monday July 27th:

Our tour starts in Rome the oldest Jewish community in the diaspora. Enjoy a guided tour of the Jewish Museum, and the glorious shul of Rome, followed by tasting some delicious kosher gelato (creamy Italian ice cream).

On the way to the Capitolone Museum, relive our history in Rome, by the very jail that held Shimon Bar Giora, one of the leaders of the Jewish revolt culminating with the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash, and the cliff where he was executed. The Capitolone Museum is from the worlds oldest museum's, and the buildings were designed by the great artist Michelangelo. It holds a vast collection of ancient Roman artifacts collected by the popes of Rome, including ancient busts of many Roman Ceaser’s, and a collection of Jewish tomb stones.

Following dinner visit the location of the terrible tragedy of the burning of our seforim in the late 1500’s. Much of Italy was left without a set of Talmud Bavli for over 200 years. Yeshiva students and Rabanim had to study Gemara from the Rif. We will visit the famous Navona square, the  castle san Angelo, used as a fortification to protect the pope, with a secret passage leading from Vatican City, and the iconic angel’s bridge, designed by one of Rome’s famous Renaissance artists Bernini.

Day 2 Tuesday July 28th:

Following breakfast visit the location of one of 6 (known) Roman Jewish catacombs, found under the villa used by Mussolini ym”sh. The Jewish community of Rome has a continuous presence from the times of the second Beis Hamikdash, well before the beginning of Christianity. We will discuss the great Tannaim like Rabbi Akiva that visited Rome, and the great Rishonim that resided in Rome, together with the history of Roman control over Judea that continued for hundreds of years. The catacombs are likely the burial place of Jews already from the times of the second Beis Hamikdosh.

This morning visit the famous Roman Coliseum built by the evil king Titus, with the money stolen from Yerushalaim, and Jewish slaves captured at that time. From there visit the Roman Forum, downtown of ancient Rome, and reflect on the churban Beis Hamikdash by the Arch of Titus, followed by a visit to Palatine Hill. We will discuss what it was like to be a Roman Caesar, with a special focus on the two Caesars that converted to Judaism. There will be a stop by the location of the Roman Temple that held the menorah and vessels of the Beis Hamikdash on display for almost 400 years, until Rome was sacked, and feel our deep down longing for the rebuilding of the Beis Hamikdash.

Enjoy an amazing vr experience by Circus Maximus, once a racing stadium seating over 150,000 spectators, offering us an idea of what Rome may have looked like 2,000 years ago, and the first arch of Titus. Along the stadium was a Jewish cemetery cleared out by Mussolini ym”sh, today a rose garden shaped like a menorah. We will use the opportunity to say a perek of Tehilim, from a distance.

The afternoon tour will culminate with a walk across the oldest remaining bridge in Rome over the Tiber River for a tour of the medieval Trastevere neighborhood, the ancient Jewish quarter of Rome, finding what was likely the Shul of Rav Nossan Ba’al Ha’aruch, one of the great Rishonim that resided in Rome, and stoping by the location of a recently found Jewish cemetery.

Following dinner walk by the ancient Roman Pantheon, a model for many USA government buildings, and the largest concrete dome from antiquity. Admire the famous Trevi fountain, and climb DOWN the iconic Spanish steps, taking pictures to show everyone back home that you were in Rome.

Day 3 Wednesday July 29th:

Today we travel to the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence, to learn how it was influenced by Judaism, and how the Renaissance affects the world till this very day.

After dropping off our luggage enjoy a walking tour of the old city of Florence, walking by the location of what was the Jewish ghetto, and stopping in front of the impressive Veccio Palace, the original location of Michelangelo's famous statue of David, (today there is a copy of the statue on display). We will pass by the burial place (a goyish building with a unique story and a large Magen Dovid on its façade) of the great Renaissance artist, discussing his life, accomplishments, and views as a true  student of the Renaissance and sympathizer of the Jews.

Visit the Galileo Museum to view some of his original creations, remains of his finger (a little weird if you ask me) and learn about his breakthroughs in the field of astronomy,

Following the Galileo Museum, walk by the Uffizi Gallery, once the seat of the Medici government, and take notice of their secret passage that leads over the iconic medieval Veccio Bridge to their palace. Tour the impressive Pitti Palace it’s famous pieces of art, amazing 3d murals, and beautiful Bobli garden, the model for many famous gardens in Europe. We will point out the original location of the first Jewish Ghetto in Florence while heading out to dinner, following the tour.

Following dinner, marvel at the beautiful Shul of Florence, found up the block, and enjoy a walking tour back to the hotel, taking in Florence as much as possible during our short stay.

Day 4 Thursday July 30th:

A private bus, will take us today on a beautiful tour of Tuscany. Our first stop is by the leaning tower of Pisa to try to get that perfect photo of us holding it up. Low and behold there was a beautiful Jewish community in Pisa, discussed in the travel log of the Chida, and unbelievably the Jewish cemetery is attached to the large square with likely the most famous tower in the world, that will be our main attraction.

The next stop is the coastal city of Livorno, known as Leghorn. When the rest of Italy forced their Jews into ghettos, Livorno gave them equal rights, and attracted a very special community, with many famous Gedolei Yisroel. We will visit the Beis Hakvaros offering a special opportunity to learn about some of our famous, and some less famous Gedolim. From there we will visit the rebuilt Shul, with its gorgeous modern architecture, and historical Aron Kodesh.

Tour the beautiful Tuscany countryside, and visit a kosher winery to taste some delicious Italian wine, followed by a very unique experience of a beautiful dinner in one of it’s quaint little towns.

Day 5 Friday July 31st:

We are off to Venice on an early morning high speed train, a one of a kind city built on logs, containing over 100 islands and 400 bridges. The method of transportation is walking and boats, no cars or even bikes allowed. Of course though it’s main attraction is the rich Jewish history of Venice.

Our first tour focuses on what is likely the world’s first Jewish Ghetto, created over 500 years ago. Enjoy a guided tour of the remarkable Shuls built by the wealthy Jewish community, and take notice of the plaque declaring the creation of the Ghetto, and its laws, while discussing the unique Jewish community made up of many Jewish ethnicities, and the many great Rabbanim that made Venice their home.

Upon returning to our hotel there will be ample opportunity for resting up, and preparing for Shabbos.

Enjoy an uplifting Shabbos davening in one of Venice’s spectacular Shuls together with the local community, some of who’s family’s have resided there for 500 years. During the Shabbos meal be inspired with Divrei Torah, stories of the many hundreds of Rabbanim, known as the Chachmai Venetzia, buried in the ancient Jewish Cemetery on the island of Lido, and learn about the unique character Rav Yehuda Aryeh Di’Modina, a maggid meisharim in the early 1600's.

We will also discuss Venice's special place in the history of the printed sefer. Amongst several sefarim printed there for the first time was the first full set of Shas Bavli, and its format of pages is used still today, probably until the coming of Mashiach.

There will be a short walking tour following the Shabbos meal in the Canneregio Neighborhood of Venice, off the beaten track, seeing how the locals reside in Venice today, and offering us insight to what it was like living in Venice.

Day 6 Shabbos August 16th:

Daven with the local Jewish community, and hear the Torah reading from one of the oldest kosher Sifrei Torah in the world, in one of the most spectacular Shuls in the world.

Following a delicious Shabbos seuda will be time for a short nap, to gather some energy for an amazing afternoon walking tour. Included in the tour will be many unique sites such as the thinnest street in Venice, the bridge without a rail, the statue with the iron nose, the hospital of Venice and much much more.

Following Shabbos will be a delicious Melave Malka along the canal, of Venetian pizza.

Day 7 Sunday August 1st:

This morning experience a mesmerizing vaporetto (Venice’s version of a city bus) boat ride along the Grand Canal, taking in the many mansions and villas that declared the prominence of their owners in years gone by. The city of Venice hasn't been changed much for hundreds of years, and the whole city is considered to be a museum. How could we not enjoy a gondola ride, the iconic Venetian rowboat, through some of the tiny picturesque canals of Venice. The Beis Yosef discusses the question of riding in a gondola on Shabbos, and quotes a story that the Tosfos Rid travelled in a gondola on Shabbos when visiting the city of Venice. From there we crop the Grand Canal to S. Mark's Square, the largest, most popular piazza in Venice, and the Palace of the Doge. Enter the palace to admire the Senate hall, and its historic oil paintings, from the largest in the world, the famous bridge of sighs, and the horrific Venetian jail, while discussing their unique form of government, the basis of western democracy today.

This afternoon we will visit downtown Venice, starting with the Rialto Market, once known as the Jewish Market, and the Rialto Bridge, built in the late 1500's, one of the most famous sites in Italy. Enjoy a stroll in the boutique Rialto Mall, with its gorgeous rooftop terrace followed by a tour of the spectacular La Fenice Theater, and the beautiful spiral staircase of Bovolo Palace, (climbing the 80 steps to marvel at the amazing view is optional).

Following a delicious dinner of Italian cuisine in the BaGhetto Restaurant enjoy  a cocktail/smoothie on Venice's main "boulevard,” a creation of Napoleon.

Day 8 Monday August 2nd:

Today is a day trip to Venice’s sister, the ancient city of Paduva, and Verona, with a private bus. Meander through the ancient city center of Paduva viewing many of its historic landmarks including the gargantuan Prato Della Valle, a massive square surrounded by over 70 statues with an island in middle of the square, Del Santo Square with its realistic bronze statue created by the famous Renaissance artist Donatello, and the Jewish Ghetto. Visit the Jewish Museum, with a guided tour of the Italian Shul, and the ancient Jewish Cemetery, offering an opportunity to daven by the kever of the Maharam Mi’Paduva, and his son the Maharshik. They were from the leaders of their generation, standing at the head of the communities of Venice and Paduva. The Maharam Mi’Paduva was related to the Rama from Krakow, and the Maharshal, whom both regarded him with such high esteem that they would not argue on his halachic decisions. We will stop by the Paduva University, opened in the 1200's continually until this very day. The university was not under Papal control, and therefore was from the only university's open to Jews in Medieval Europe. The medical school was regarded as one of the top in Europe, and several hundred Jews graduated as doctors, including Rav Tuvia Ha’Rofe, whose famous drawing of human anatomy was of the first of its kind. We will visit the new Jewish Cemetery to Daven by the kever/monument of the author of the famous commentary the Abarbanel, and hear his amazing life story escaping the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition. He was buried right next to Rav Yehuda Mintz Zatza”l, the Rebbe of the Maharam Mi’Paduva.

On to the city of Verona, home to the great Yeshiva of Ba’aley Tosfos led by Reb Yeshaya Di’Troni, also known as the Tosfos Rid. We will discuss the amazing Jewish community that lived in Verona, view its splendid Shul, and the remains of the Jewish Ghetto. A walking tour through the old city of Verona will take us to see it’s ancient bridges, gorgeous boutique walking street, and the Verona Coliseum, second largest Roman Coliseum in Italy, very well preserved, and still in use today.  Included in the walking tour will be a chance to take pictures at Juliet's house (a renaissance movie set, from the famous play of William Shakespeare "Romeo & Juliet") and the Juliet fountain.
