Cairns follows the local custom of lighting candles 18 minutes before sunset. The Shabbat-end time shown uses tzeit hakochavim (8.5°). A 72-minute alternative is also shown for those who follow that opinion.

Cairns has a small but welcoming Jewish community centered around the Chabad of Far North Queensland. Visitors planning to observe Shabbat should contact Chabad in advance for meals and service times, as there are no dedicated kosher restaurants or an eruv in the city.
